Popular peptides: the most-searched peptides, their FDA status and what the evidence shows
Research use only. Peptides supplied by Peptryn are sold strictly for in vitro and preclinical laboratory research. They are not approved by the FDA for human or veterinary use, and nothing here is medical advice, a dosing recommendation, or an instruction for self-administration. This guide describes what people search for and what the published record says.
Quick answer: what are the most popular peptides?
By US search volume in September 2026, the most popular peptides are tirzepatide (about 1.2 million searches a month), semaglutide (368,000), retatrutide (165,000 for “reta peptide”) and sermorelin (165,000). CJC-1295, MOTS-c, PT-141 and TB-500 follow at roughly 50,000 to 60,000 each, with SS-31, glutathione injections and melanotan 2 at about 27,000.
Popularity measures curiosity. It does not measure benefit, safety or approval. The two most-searched peptides are FDA-approved drugs. Most of the rest are not approved for any use, and a few have approvals for one narrow condition. This guide ranks the peptides by searches, states each one’s FDA status, and links to our source-checked guide where we have one.

The most-searched peptides in the United States
This ranking of the top peptides people search for uses Google Ads keyword volume for US searches in September 2026. Where a peptide has several spellings, it shows the highest. The status column is the FDA position as we verified it. “Not reviewed” means we have no guide on that peptide and are making no claim.
| Rank | Peptide | Monthly US searches | FDA status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Tirzepatide | 1,220,000 | Approved drug (Mounjaro 2022, Zepbound 2023) |
| 2 | Semaglutide | 368,000 | Approved drug (Ozempic 2017, Wegovy 2021) |
| 3 | Retatrutide (“reta peptide”) | 165,000 | Investigational, not approved |
| 3 | Sermorelin | 165,000 | Formerly approved (Geref), discontinued 2008 |
| 5 | CJC-1295 | 60,500 | Not approved |
| 6 | MOTS-c | 49,500 | Not approved |
| 6 | PT-141 | 49,500 | Approved as bremelanotide (Vyleesi, 2019) |
| 6 | TB-500 | 49,500 | Not approved |
| 9 | Cagrilintide | 33,100 | Not reviewed |
| 10 | SS-31 | 27,100 | Approved as elamipretide (Forzinity, 2025) for one condition |
| 10 | Glutathione injections | 27,100 | FDA warned about compounded injectables (2019) |
| 10 | Melanotan 2 | 27,100 | Not reviewed |
| 13 | Selank | 22,200 | Not reviewed |
| 14 | AOD-9604 | 18,100 | Not reviewed |
| 14 | Thymosin alpha 1 | 18,100 | Not reviewed |
| 16 | Dihexa | 14,800 | Not reviewed |
| 17 | Survodutide | 8,100 | Not reviewed |
| 18 | GHRP-6 | 6,600 | Not reviewed |
| 19 | Thymosin beta 4 | 4,400 | See TB-500 |
BPC-157, GHK-Cu, ipamorelin, tesamorelin, KPV, epitalon and semax returned no volume. That reflects Google Ads suppressing some drug-related terms, not an absence of demand, so we do not give them a rank. 5-Amino-1MQ (27,100) is a small molecule and not a peptide, and we cover it in a separate guide.

Approved, investigational and unapproved
Almost every peptide on the list falls into one of three categories.
Approved drugs have gone through FDA review for a specific use. Tirzepatide and semaglutide are approved for diabetes and weight management under their brand names. Bremelanotide (sold as Vyleesi, and searched as PT-141) is approved for one condition in premenopausal women. Elamipretide (Forzinity) is approved for one rare disease. Tesamorelin (Egrifta) is approved for one indication in adults with HIV. An approval covers the product and the use in its label, not every peptide with a similar name.
Investigational drugs are in clinical trials and not yet approved. Retatrutide is the main example.
Unapproved peptides have no FDA approval for any use. That group includes most of the research peptides sold online. FDA has said that a “research use only” label does not change its analysis of intended use, which is why we keep our own descriptions to what the published record shows. Our guide to whether peptides are legal covers the warning letters.
On July 23, 2026, FDA’s Pharmacy Compounding Advisory Committee voted 8 to 6, with one abstention, to recommend adding BPC-157, KPV and TB-500 to the list of substances pharmacies may compound, and voted 7 to 5, with two abstentions, on MOTS-c. An advisory vote is a recommendation. It is not an approval.

The popular peptides one by one
Each entry states the status and the evidence in a few lines and links to the full guide. None gives a dose, a schedule or an injection method.
Tirzepatide and semaglutide
Both are approved drugs. FDA approved Mounjaro (tirzepatide) on May 13, 2022 for glycemic control in type 2 diabetes and Zepbound on November 8, 2023 for weight reduction and obstructive sleep apnea. Semaglutide is in Ozempic (approved December 5, 2017) and Wegovy (June 4, 2021), among other products. Tirzepatide acts on the GIP and GLP-1 receptors. Their volumes are dominated by people looking for the branded drugs.
Retatrutide
Retatrutide is an investigational triple agonist of the GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon receptors and is not FDA-approved. Lilly has said it expects to submit for approval in the first quarter of 2027. Trial results come from supervised programs and not from vials bought from a supplier. Our guide to buying retatrutide for research covers what to verify on a lot before you order.
Sermorelin, CJC-1295, ipamorelin and tesamorelin
These act on the growth hormone axis. Sermorelin is the first 29 amino acids of growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH). Geref was approved in 1990 and 1997, and its maker discontinued it in 2008. CJC-1295 is a GHRH analog, and the published human trials tested the version with a linker called DAC, while Peptryn sells the version without it. Ipamorelin acts on the ghrelin receptor. Tesamorelin is the only one currently approved, as Egrifta since November 10, 2010, for excess abdominal fat in HIV-infected adults with lipodystrophy. Read the guides for sermorelin, CJC-1295, ipamorelin, CJC-1295 with ipamorelin and tesamorelin.
BPC-157, TB-500, GHK-Cu and the blends
BPC-157 is a 15-amino-acid peptide derived from a protein in human gastric juice. TB-500 is the name used for thymosin beta-4 or a fragment of it, depending on the seller. GHK-Cu is a copper-binding tripeptide. None is an FDA-approved drug. The evidence is mostly cell and animal work, with small topical human studies for GHK-Cu. The blends sold under names such as Wolverine, Klow and Glow combine them, and no human trial of the blends exists that we found. See our guides to Wolverine, Klow and Glow.
MOTS-c and SS-31
Both target mitochondria. MOTS-c is a 16-amino-acid peptide encoded in mitochondrial DNA, and we found no completed controlled human trial of MOTS-c itself. SS-31 is the research name for elamipretide, a four-amino-acid peptide. FDA granted accelerated approval to elamipretide (Forzinity) on September 19, 2025 for Barth syndrome, and the drug product is not the same thing as a research vial. Read the MOTS-c guide and the SS-31 guide.
PT-141
PT-141 is the search name for bremelanotide, a melanocortin receptor agonist. FDA approved it as Vyleesi on June 21, 2019 for acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder in premenopausal women. We do not have a guide on it.
Glutathione
Glutathione is a tripeptide that cells make themselves. Evidence for oral products is mixed, and the published record on injections is thin, with warnings from FDA and from the Philippine FDA. See the glutathione guide.
Types of peptides
Peptides are short chains of amino acids, and they are usually sorted by what they act on. The classes below cover the common peptides on the list.
| Class | What they act on | Examples from the list |
|---|---|---|
| Incretin and glucagon receptor agonists | GLP-1, GIP and glucagon receptors | Semaglutide, tirzepatide, retatrutide |
| Growth hormone-releasing hormone analogs | The GHRH receptor on the pituitary | Sermorelin, CJC-1295, tesamorelin |
| Ghrelin receptor agonists | The ghrelin receptor (GHS-R1a) | Ipamorelin |
| Repair and regeneration research peptides | Studied in cell and animal models | BPC-157, TB-500, GHK-Cu |
| Mitochondrial peptides | Mitochondrial function | MOTS-c, SS-31 |
| Melanocortin receptor agonists | Melanocortin receptors | PT-141 (bremelanotide) |
| Antioxidant tripeptide | Made by cells | Glutathione |

Popularity is not evidence
Search interest moves with news. Retatrutide searches rose more than thirteenfold in a year, over a period of trial results and news coverage. The July 2026 advisory vote drew press coverage to BPC-157, KPV, TB-500 and MOTS-c. A rising number tells you what people are curious about and nothing about whether a compound works or is safe.
Most of the peptides above are sold online as research chemicals, and the quality of what arrives varies. A 2026 preprint analyzing 6,441 gray market peptide samples found that 41.6% to 71.1% failed basic quality criteria depending on the model, though it has not been peer reviewed. That is why the paperwork matters. Read what a COA is, what peptide purity means, and how peptide testing works before relying on any result.

Each guide linked above lists its sources. Our COA library shows the lot reports for the peptides we sell.
Final take
The peptides people search most are not the ones with the strongest evidence. Two are approved drugs, one is in late-stage trials, and many are unapproved research compounds with thin human data. Use search volume to see what people are asking, use the FDA label or the published trials to see what is known, and use a lot-specific COA to see what is in a vial. For every compound in one place, including ones we do not sell, see our complete list of research peptides.
