Description

KPV (Lys-Pro-Val) is the smallest bioactive C-terminal tripeptide fragment of alpha-melanocyte stimulating hormone (α-MSH), retaining a portion of the parent hormone’s biological activity while lacking the pigmentation-associated melanocortin receptor binding of the full-length molecule. This structural minimalism has made KPV a subject of interest in tripeptide structure-activity research.

Preclinical research has examined KPV’s interactions with nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB) signalling and its influence on pro-inflammatory cytokine expression in cell culture and rodent models. Published studies in peptide immunology have investigated KPV’s activity in models of gut barrier and dermal tissue research, exploring its behaviour independent of classical melanocortin receptor pigmentation pathways. Research models have also examined KPV’s antimicrobial peptide characteristics, a feature that continues to generate scientific interest in tripeptide immunomodulation.

KPV has a molecular weight of approximately 342.44 Da and the molecular formula C16H30N4O4.
